Regarding the new regulation, in 2020 the FEI introduced a new pony measurement system, which came into force from 1 January 2020 with a transition period established for ponies already registered with the FEI before that date.
This FEI measurement certificate will only be issued for official measurements scheduled by the FEI: https://inside.fei.org/fei/your-role/veterinarians/welfare/pony-measuring/calendar
The statutory height of a Pony at the cross must not exceed:
When a new pony is registered in the FEI database, it must be measured in an official FEI measurement session.
Measured ponies will receive an FEI measurement certificate according to their age: ponies aged eight years and over will receive a lifetime certificate, while ponies under eight years old will receive a provisional certificate of 15 months.
Ponies can attend a measurement session in any country, but cannot be measured by an FEI measurement veterinarian of the national federation in which the pony is registered.
If a pony is measured and too large, it cannot participate in any FEI pony competition. It may be re-measured once during the same year in another measurement session, and once a year in the following two consecutive years. In total, it can be measured four times in three consecutive years.
All ponies must be free of any substances included in the list of prohibited substances for equines, and EADCM samples may be taken during measurement sessions.
Official FEI veterinarians may take DNA samples from any or all ponies; these samples will not be used for others until they are the identification of the pony.
